The challenges before Onelog
Gaps in oversight
No prior tracking of resource usage was in place and renewal decisions were based on perceived, not actual value.
Unverified need
Subscriptions were often maintained regardless of their actual practical utility.
Limited reporting
No ability to segment usage by resource, time or user when creating reports.
Cost recovery issues
Particularly around emerging tools like CoCounsel, which offered no usage or billing data from the vendor.
So in comes the solution…
Online resource management
3. Customisation and flexibility
Onelog’s technical team worked closely with Greenspoon Marder’s IT department to implement unique tracking and other capabilities.
Onelog: Make the most out of your online resource portfolio
Having successfully used Onelog in a previous firm, and also having experience with similar software solutions which he had experienced issues with regarding reporting and lengthy problem resolution, Chaffin advocated for the adoption of Onelog.
After freshly evaluating alongside a colleague, the firm selected Onelog based on three key factors:
1. Superior customer support
“Onelog’s support has been far superior to what I’ve experienced elsewhere,” Chaffin noted.
2. Cost efficiency
Onelog was significantly more affordable than its competitors.
“seamless”
“standout integration”
“addressed promptly”
“enabling new features”
Implementation and adoption
The implementation process was described as “seamless.” Greenspoon Marder’s IT team worked together with Onelog’s support team, and any security or configuration concerns were addressed promptly.
Initially rolled out in December 2024, Onelog was later expanded to include the Chargeback Module in April 2025. A standout integration was the tracking of CoCounsel, with the help of Onelog’s developers, Greenspoon Marder was able to distinguish and track CoCounsel usage separately, even when accessed via Westlaw’s interface, enabling new features.
The immediate benefits…
Transparent usage reporting
For the first time, Greenspoon Marder can see who uses which resources and how frequently.
Data-driven decision making
Renewal discussions now rely on objective usage data, not just subjective feedback.
Time savings
Onelog eliminates the need for manual usage surveys, saving considerable time during the renewal cycle.
Behavioural insights
The platform has prompted more awareness around resource use.
“ We will probably pay for Onelog with the cost savings from just one renewal. ”
– Walker Chaffin
Organisational impact
Aside from the benefits to the Knowledge Management team, other departments, particularly Accounting and the CFO’s office have seen immediate value from Onelog’s reporting and chargeback functions.
The adoption has also equipped leadership with better tools to evaluate ROI on digital subscriptions.
Looking ahead
Greenspoon Marder plans to revisit Onelog’s impact after a full renewal cycle to quantify financial savings and operational efficiencies. Chaffin expects future expansions in the Knowledge Management function will only increase the utility of Onelog.
To conclude…
Greenspoon Marder LLP’s deployment of Onelog has brought much-needed transparency, accountability and cost control to its online resource management.
By leveraging real usage data and powerful new capabilities, the firm is well-positioned to make smarter renewal decisions, recover costs and better align resources with actual attorney needs.
